Archangel Michael with Scales

St. Michael the Archangel, whose name means, “one who is like God,” led the army of angels who cast Satan and the rebellious angels into Hell. At the end of time, he will wield the doubled-edged sword of justice and truth and separate the righteous from the evil. He appears in the Book of Enoch as one of the seven archangels, alongside Uriel, Raguel, Raphael, Sariel, Gabriel, and Remiel.

Michael is associated with courage, protection, and divine intervention. He is also regarded as the angel of death, accompanying the souls of departed Christians to heaven and the weigher of souls, often depicted holding balanced scales, symbolizing his role in weighing souls during the Last Judgment.
